Agenda 1
Field trip Attendance:
What is the policy for students to attend field trips? · Concern that some students are not allowed to go for not having work done, though may still be allowed to go. · Harvey-the individual permission from T slips are a bit cumbersome · Open discussion about if kids are failing a class then they can’t go on the trip….has been protocol. · Many field trips have been scheduled during testing/prep times…It’s still an individual teacher decision. · Graham—let’s develop a policy for cases that when 1 teacher holds back permission so that the Students can participate in important activities. · Open discussion—5/6 teachers approve, 1/6 disapprove, needs to have a process to approve · Graham—Academic/behavior probation list can be made to be the ‘decision’ Graham would take this on
Action item—Dance GPA approvals need to be done by a staff member-not students Student reps and Admin will notify ASB advisor of item.
Action item—SCS will develop a student privilege criteria policy to address concerns about Students attending fieldtrips dances sports etc.
Agenda item 2 Referrals entered into Zangle · Croom—Teachers have asked about the consistency of referral entries and consequences administered ‘fairly’. · Graham—Administrative vs. Student Referral. Teachers do not have a consistent administration of the discipline plan…buddy room applications are spotty. A counseling referral form should be used for minor issues and the admin form for more serious issues. · General discussion—let’s get the staff trained about discipline and get on the same page. · Zeunges—Safe and Civil Schools meet to form plan for tier 3 kids-plan will be retooled at next SCS meeting. · Cabello—we need a reference point for all staff to look at for policies (staff handbook)
Agenda item 3: Travel days · Croom Motion—table travel days item to next meeting · Second—Christensen Yes—most No—2 · Discussion—when Teachers get back late at night because of a scheduled or delayed flight teaching the next day is not optimal. · Cabello—this is not a union issue-if you get back late and need to call in a sub then use a sick day to call in a sub. Communicate with the coordinator to make sure you have an early enough flight so you can work the next day or don’t go.
Motion to adjourn—Croom
